April Vibes

I was looking out the window, fascinated by the fairy tale beauty of the rainbow that appeared after the April shower and I suddenly remembered that when I was a child, I seriously believed the legend about treasure troves being hidden at both ends of the rainbow.

As a matter of fact, and although I was still a child then, my mind was aware that the story is not true, yet I believed in it, or more precisely I wanted to believe and for a long time I was trying to defeat my arrogant inner self that was trying to convince me of the opposite.

I was never daydreaming about things like setting sail and going on a quest to find the treasure one fine day; I never really wanted to find it so I could dig it out and buy a new bike… the notion that it was there somewhere was quite enough. The real treasure was the thought itself, that lovely heartwarming feeling.

When we grow up and become adults we always want everything and we never leave any time for yearning or daydreaming about things. We want it all and we always want it now. We go out and buy things, we keep stockpiling and distracting our minds. And we forget to be happy in the process. A single thing is no longer enough so we immediately buy three although most of us are quite well aware that things one can buy will only give us brief moments of happiness; we really don’t need them, yet we are already standing at the cachier’s desk with our wallets clenched in our hands and as we pay we are already thinking about the next shop where we could go to pick up another serving of happiness crumbs.

Chuck Palahniuk is a writer from the US who happens to be the writer of the world famous novel that served as the basis for the film titled FIGHT CLUB, and at one point in time he said something like „I’m stupid, I only want objects, things I can own. My lousy little job. My Swedish furniture…”

I want you all to have an April this year that’s different from the others. Let’s try to quench our desires to own yet another new thing or two. Let’s try to learn daydreaming once again, laying on a blanket, playing with a blade of grass, watching the clouds drift by and letting the rays of the sun tickle our faces as they appear from behind the silver lining. And who knows? Maybe we will get to see yet another rainbow with the world’s most precious treasures buried at both ends…

Wishing you a wonderful April!

A szaros kis munkámra. A svéd bútoraimra…”
