Top 10 movies of 2017 (so far)

Although it is hard to believe, half a year has already passed! If you are interested in the top 10 movies of the first half of 2017 according to Vibes, then this list is for you. Just in time to add movies to your watchlist, while lying on the beach! 🙂

10. The Red Turtle

A very special animated film, a completely wordless tale which tells the story of a man shipwrecked on an island. With minimalistic visuals, even without words we understand the story completely and feel the man’s emotions – a truly beautiful piece of art.

9. Baby Driver

An exciting, new movie with an old base story. If great music is what you are looking for in a movie, this film is definitely for you! Baby had an accident when he was young and can only concentrate – driving cars for bank robbers here – if he has at least one of his precious iPods with him.

8. Hidden Figures

This movie is a true disengagement: the story sucks you in completely, you root for the characters a 100% and are baffled to see the injustice they receive. It is fun, exciting and very human, with great actresses and fun songs!

7. Get Out

Probably the best horror movie of the year – although I have to be honest I don’t really like this genre. But this horror is not the kind of spooky/frightening/children-dressed-up-scary kind of movie. It has more to do with the male black protagonist and his introduction to his new white girlfriend’s family.

6. Split

A movie where the always wonderful James McAvoy plays 23 different characters? Bring it on! McAvoy brings crazy to the film perfectly, while we root for the captured girls to escape. You will be at the edge of your seat for 117 minutes, I promise!

5. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Definitely start with the first one, if you haven’t seen it. You’ll see a fun, entertaining movie with great actors, funny dialogs and incredible scenery! A superhero movie which plays in space, about five totally conflicting “people” (one is a mutant racoon and a talking tree after all) fighting to save the galaxy.

4. Hunt for the Wilderpeople

Although after the first look this story seems like a classical one (as do many movies on this list by the way) the sweetness and the fun of this movie is beyond explanation. Playing in the beautiful forests of New-Zealand, follow a boy and his foster dad bond through adventure.

3. Wonder Woman

Finally, a good movie about a female superhero! What I am saying, amazing is a much better word. Follow Diana as she leaves her home island, to find her true powers and destiny in fighting in the first World War, alongside the man he saves from death at the beginning of the movie.

2. Lion

This movie is second on this list and not by coincidence. The screenplay is based on the true story of a young Indian boy who lost home, only to try to find it again after growing up with foster parents in Australia. A beautiful, heartfelt story about how Google maps helps him find his long lost mother.

1. Moonlight

A wonderful and rare story about three stages of a little black boy’s life in Florida, as he finds his sexual orientation. The story telling is a truly mesmerizing with beautiful music playing in the background, a definite must-see.
