December Vibes

I am letting my thoughts roam free while I’m travelling home by train. I am slowly edging towards the window to be as close to the tiny radiator as possible. My boots are almost on fire but I’m still freezing. The filthy. steamy window blocks  any visual access to the outside world, the battery in my phone is dead but I couldn’t care less. I’m just staring out through the window though I cannot see a thing and it has become dark in  the meantime anyway. The train just sweeps into the darkness, oblivious of the tiny, lonesone houses along the rails that are only visible as patches of dim light in the darkness; I’m trying to imagine the people who live there. Are they happy? Do they at least have an inkling about a person who happens to be curious to find out whether they are happy or not. In my mind I am helping them decorate their christmas tree, I am untangling their string lights and we are all joined in fascination as the lights begin to dance, their reflections glowing on the tiny christmas tree ornaments. I sneak up closer and steal a candy from the tree, munching it with eyes closed and I am smiling as I let the long forgotten, familiar taste of jelly candy fly me back to my childhood. My memories are like logs of timber floating down the river of my thoughts. I recall my velvet dress that I really disliked back then, yet now it seems so beautiful as I think about it; I recall those heaps of presents of which there was one that really stands out in my memory: a giant can of pineapple. The huge thing has been lurking in the shadows beneath the christmas tree for days and I knew it was for me. I was so curious, I kept sneaking back under the tree and felt the packaging with my fingers. It had a strange, cylindrical shape and I simply couldn’t figure out what it might be. A child’s imagination can take you to faraway places in a moment but I must confess I was feeling a bit disappointed when the long awaited moment arrived and I was finally allowed to open my present. But now when the memory comes back I am once again smiling happily as my childhood memories surround and embrace me like sugar syrup covering those pineapple slices. Christmas Eve and New Year’s eve were always great fun, we were dazed as we drank kid’s champagne and we laughed and laughed…

December is back with its gingerbread scent but the presents are not nearly as important as they used to be. If you are also yearning for good conversation, hearty laughter, an exciting book to read or a film we could all watch together instead of sorting through various objects under the Christmas Tree then you are at the right place because Vibes has been preparing lots of great ideas and interesting things for you; we neatly packaged all of them in our December issue.

Have a great December everyone!

Elkalandoznak a gondolataim, ahogy a vonaton utazom hazafelé.

Legyen szép a decemberetek!
